Let's have a house concert!

If you've never been to or hosted a house concert before, you'll find it to be a really cool experience (and your guests will think you're really cool for thinking of it!). It’s a fantastic way to experience wonderful music in your home, with your friends.

WHAT IS A HOUSE CONCERT?

You provide the space and invite the guests, and we'll provide the music!  It's really that simple.

House concerts have grown in popularity over the years because music fans and musicians alike enjoy the relaxed and intimate setting of live music in the comfort and convenience of home. Unlike a party with music in the background, the focus of a house concert is live music. There is time for socializing and catching up with friends both before and after the performance. During the performance, however, guests are encouraged to listen to the songs to get the most out of this unique experience.

At the house concert, we will play our original songs as well as a few recognizable songs from some of our favorite artists. We'll also share stories behind the songs. You and your guests are encouraged to sing along, ask questions, make requests, whatever. We'll keep it light and fun!  Afterwards, we'll hang out and meet your awesome friends!

SOUNDS LIKE FUN! HOW MANY PEOPLE SHOULD I INVITE?

That's entirely up to you! We've known house concerts to have as few as 15 guests and as many as 50.  To some degree, it will depend on how much room you have, and you probably have more room than you think!  One of the cool things about house concerts is that there is no script or formula that has to be followed.  After all, this is an event in your home, you can decide what it will be like! Some of our favorite house concerts have been in the smallest of living rooms, to intimate and enthusiastic listeners.

HMMM . . . DOES IT COST ANYTHING TO HOST A HOUSE CONCERT?

No.  You don't have to spend anything if you don't want to. Some hosts like to provide snacks and drinks for guests, while others ask guests to bring their own (a potluck arrangement usually works very well). Some hosts serve dinner to guests or have a cookout before the music begins, but those decisions are entirely up to you.

OKAY, BUT HOW DO THE PERFORMERs GET PAID?

It's basically a pass-the-hat type of show.  As host, you'll let guests know that there is a suggested contribution that will go to the performer, typically $10-20.   A suggested contribution allows guests to pay what they can and also compensates the performer for the performance. That being said, no guest should be turned away if they aren't able to contribute.

THIS ALL SOUNDS GREAT, BUT WHAT IF I DON'T LIVE NEAR YOU?

Don't let that stop you from getting in touch. We travel quite a bit and odds are good we can work out a date to make this happen!  If you don't live in a place that we're going to be visiting in the near future and still want to host a house concert, let us know and we can talk about a flat fee.
